Architectural EPS Foam Core Quoins vs Wood, Stucco, GFRC, and More

At Patterson Whittaker Architectural Profiles, we offer a very unique product that approaches architectural design differently. Using an EPS foam core that is coated with reinforced cement, we can create essentially any architectural product available on the market today, including cornices, columns, arches, and so much more, all for properties from modest single family homes to large commercial properties.

Our foam core products are not just “stucco shapes” (although they can be used for that as well). They are a complete way to address essentially all forms of architecture.

About Our EPS Architectural Foam Core Quoins

One great example of the advantages of our products is our ability to create uniform, high quality architectural quoins. Traditionally, these quoins are made with a variety of different materials: wood, stucco foam, concrete, etc. But our designs have advantages that replace all of those different products, and do so in a way that is more cost effective.

Advantages of Cement Coated Foam Quoins Over Stone, GFRC, and Heavy Materials

Let’s start with the advantages of these cement coated foam shapes over heavier materials, like stone and glassfiber reinforced concrete. These types of heavy materials require significant manual reinforcement in order to be installed properly, and also require a sizeable amount of labor to complete the job. Not only do the products themselves cost more, but the installation costs add up as well.

In addition, most of these products have very long lead times, an extensive engineering process, and shipment problems. It’s not uncommon, for example, for precast concrete to arrive with chips and dings from transport. That adds to the time of install.

Advantages of Cement Coated Foam Quoins Over Stucco Shapes

Similarly, there are some similarities between our products and the stucco quoins that are used in many kinds of architecture. Both can use an EPS core. Both can mimic other shapes. But despite these, our products actually differ considerably. First, our products come pre-finished, which means that the final design is more uniform and detailed.

Second, our products are not just for stucco. You can use these foam core quoins on any type of property, and they can be finished to mimic other materials. For example, we have a way to add texture to make it look identical to stone.

Our products are also significantly more durable. All the product materials are built with reinforcement, which makes them far stronger and much better for all different types of properties. While it isn’t as useful for quoins, our products can also be larger and more intricately detailed, which means that you can use them on all other types of architectural products as well.
