Plaster Shortage: Causes, Solutions, and an Alternative From Patterson Whittaker

Patterson Whittaker Architectural Profiles provides custom architectural products that offer an alternative to traditional building materials in light of the plaster shortage and gypsum shortage. Our products utilize a reinforced EPS core with a reinforced cement coating, providing the same architectural products as GFRG, precast concrete, and other exterior and interior materials but with additional benefits, including:

  • Profoundly Light Weight – Typically, these jobs can be completed with only one person and limited to no manual reinforcement.
  • Short Lead Times – We can typically have a product ready for you in a fraction of the time it would take those suffering from plaster and gypsum shortages.
  • Affordable Costs – The total cost, including shipping and installation, is often a small fraction of other materials.
  • Outstanding Durability – Despite its EPS core, these items offer outstanding durability for both residential and commercial properties.

If you’re struggling to find the products you need as a result of the gypsum and plaster shortages, we strongly encourage you to reach out to Patterson Whittaker, as our products are quickly becoming the favorite approach to address deficiencies in GFRC, GFRG, precast, wood, and other products. What’s Going On With Plaster and Gypsum?

Most of the shortages for plaster and gypsum have been caused by a combination of factors – first, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a decrease in production for these materials. Second, for a variety of reasons (work from home, construction, etc.), the desire for the existing materials has increased dramatically, which means that any material that is made available has already been accounted for.

Because of the shortage, prices are also rising, which can make it more difficult for some companies to get their hands on materials when they are available. Overall, it’s becoming more difficult than ever to offer plaster and gypsum related products.

Architectural EPS

We believe this could be a blessing in disguise, as now is the best time to learn more about architectural EPS (sometimes called “foam shapes” or “architectural foam”). We began offering these products because we are true believers. We’ve found that those that switch from GFRC, wood, precast concrete, and other products often find that they want to use it for all of their projects, and it quickly becomes their go to product for their architectural design. It is preferred by both architects and contractors, and can be used for everything from luxury commercial buildings to more modest housing.

Now is a great time to learn more about this unique product. If you’re struggling to get the products you need as a result of the plaster or gypsum shortage, please contact PW Profiles, today.
